About Us

We are a group of young people who meet regularly to talk about Carterton, and how we can improve our town for all young people. We have 21 representatives from schools and groups all over Carterton.  We are between the ages of 11 and 18.  All representatives are elected by their organisation to serve on the Youth Council for one year. The Youth Council is run like a real council with officers and vice officers.
The Youth Council History

The Youth Council Started in 2007 when we had our first meeting on the 27th September. Our first meeting was a training session for all Youth Councillors to get to know each other and to learn a bit about what the Youth Council is all about.

Not long after our first few meetings the Youth Council held a stall at the Christmas fair in aid of Children’s Liver Disease Foundation. The Youth Council raised just over £140 and considering it was raining, that's pretty good!

Then Carterton Youth Council assisted in promoting the Big Lottery People's Millions competition where Carterton won £38,380 for the tower square project.
